Østafrikansk retropop møder arabiske klange i Alsarah & The Nubatones‘ charmerende sange om håb, bevægelse og frihed. Den karismatiske sudanske sangerinde skulle have gæstet ALICE med sin gruppe i april, men koncerten blev lagt ned grundet coronavirus. Derfor er vi glade for at de i stedet kommer til Nørrebro i oktober.
Allerede da Alsarah & The Nubatones’ udgav deres debutplade “Silt” i 2014, udråbte The Guardian Alsarah som "the new star of Nubian pop". Siden har den karismatiske sudanske sangerinde med sin gruppe spillet på prestigefyldte scener og festivaler som Roskilde og Glastonbury Festival, og endda prydet forsiden af Songlines.
Alsarah & The Nubatones har Alsarahs bjergtagende vokal i front. En vokal der emmer af nostalgi, men også af håb og revolutionært fremsyn. Gruppens særlige take på den østafrikanske 70’er-pop får selskab af forførende arabiske klange og en spændende instrumentering spillet af brillante musikere, der blandt andet omfatter den mesterlige Drandon Terzic på det arabiske lut-instrument, oud, og Rami El Aasser på traditionelt slagtøj som riq, deff, og tabla. Alsarah er født i Sudan, vokset op i Yemen og nu bosat i New York. Det afspejles i hendes musik, hvor den retrospektive pop i en ny forklædning er dét, som skaber Alsarah & The Nubatones helt unikke lyd.
Gruppen har udgivet to albums siden deres debut. Sangene handler ofte om, hvad hjem er. For Alsarah er hjem minder fra den østafrikanske kyst, men det er er også retten til at kunne bevæge sig. Og det er det musikken gør. Den taler om nostalgi, men er samtidig grænsekrydsende og vidtfavnende.
Alsarah & The Nubatones har spillet forrygende koncerter på både Roskilde Festival og ALICE de seneste år. Gruppen skulle være vendt tilbage til ALICE i april, men koncerten blev aflyst på grund af coronavirus. Derfor er vi glade for at kunne præsentere dem til oktober i stedet.

Baptized « the new star of Nubian pop » by the prestigious Guardian Magazine, the sudanese singer from Brooklyn Alsarah gracefully distils atemporal melodies over heady beats, at the crossroads of East-African and Arabic influences. After a successful first album “Silt” released in 2014 and performed on the most prestigious stages of the world, Alsarah and her musicians The Nubatones released “Manara” in 2016. This Spring they are releasing a new record. The songs of Alsarah & The Nubatones often deal with the question of home and what it sounds like, referring to her own nomadic experiences. The band played wonderful concerts at Roskilde Festival and ALICE the last two years, and were supposed to play at ALICE in March, but the concert got cancelled due to coronavirus. Therefore, we are excited to be able to welcome the group back to Nørrebro in October instead.
