Vi afrunder årets arktiske hovedserie på Nordatlantiske Filmdage 2023 med særvisning af Zacharias Kunuks mangfoldigt prisbelønnede gennembrudsfilm fra 2001.
ATANARJUAT - THE FAST RUNNER
Zacharias Kunuks Atanarjuat – The Fast Runner er baseret på en gammel inuit-legende og udspiller sig i begyndelsen af det første årtusinde. I form af en fremmed shaman sår ondskaben splid i et lille nomadesamfund. Lejrens leder myrdes, og efterfølgeren Sauri nedgør og udstøder sin rival, Tulimaq.
Som årene går forskydes dog magtbalancen, og da Tulimaqs to sønner, Amaqjuaq den stærke og Atanarjuat den hurtige løber, bliver voksne, bliver de også lejrens bedste jægere. Det afføder jalousi og vrede hos Oki, lederens temperamentsfulde søn. Og da Atanarjuat i en dyst vinder den kvinde, der var lovet Oki til brud, beslutter Oki sig for at dræbe de to brødre.
Atanarjuat – The Fast Runner er fortalt i den for Zacharias Kunuk nu velkendte og originale stil, der kan fremstå nærmest dokumentarisk i sit adstadige tempo og samtidig har et æstetisk besnærende billedsprog, som man ikke kan andet end overgive sig til. Ud over at være Kunuks internationale gennembrud skabte filmen en ny bevidsthed om Inuitkulturen og Inuitfilm.
ARRANGEMENTET
Filmen (167 min) vises i nydigitaliseret udgave og har engelske undertekster. Arrangementet inkluderer kort velkomst og varer 175 minutter. Filmsalen og dens café åbner 45 min. før visningen. Der er unummererede siddepladser. Kom gerne i god tid.
