Brahms Klavertrio dedikerer aftenens program til Anton og Nikolai Rubinstein. Koncerten begynder med Anton Rubinsteins klavertrio i g-mol, efterfulgt af Pavel Pabsts klavertrio, skrevet til ære for Anton Rubinstein, og Tjajkovskijs klavertrio i a-mol “til minde om en stor kunstner” - hvorved Nikolaj Rubinstein er ment. Anton Rubinstein var mastodont i det russiske musikliv, berømt som kunstner, komponist og grundlægger af musikkonservatoriet i St. Petersborg. Nikolaj Rubinstein, lillebror til Anton, var ligeledes både pianist og komponist samt i 1866, grundlægger af Moskvas musikkonservatorium, som senere blev opkaldt efter Tjajkovskij.
