I 1700-tallet hærgede flammerne det gamle København to gange, og ud af asken opstod den by vi kender i dag.
På denne tur går vi i ildens hærgende spor i 1728. Historiker Morten Lander Andersen forklarer hvordan det kunne gå så galt i 1728. Hvordan et barns ubetænksomhed, en officers stædighed, dårlig kommunikation og almen drukkenskab fodrede katastrofen. Det er hele samfundet, der bliver belyst i flammerne.
Vi fortæller gribende begivenheder fra branden, og tapperhed, tragedie, og hvordan branden til sidst blev stoppet.
Sidst på turen kan I høre om den anden store brand i 1795, samt om det engelske bombardement i 1807. Tilsammen var al denne ødelæggelse med til at forme det gamle København.
