Description

Line-up:

Pierre Dørge: guitar, konkylie
Dawda Jobarteh: kora, vocal
Irene Becker: keyboards
Ayi Solomon: percussion

In English:

Ever since his youth, the Danish guitarist Pierre Dørge has had a huge interest in global music. An interest which was fuelled by a meeting with Moroccan musicians in Paris, where he travelled in the 60s. Later Dørge became a Danish pioneer in fusing American jazz inspirations with music from all over the world - be it Africa, The Middle East, India, Japan, Balkan etc. Keyboardist Irene Becker has followed him on the journey through projects like Thermænius and in particular New Jungle Orchestra - a group which can celebrate 40 years of existence in 2020.

Recently Pierre Dørge & New Jungle Orchestra performed at a packed ALICE. For Vinterjazz 2020, Pierre Dørge and Irene Becker returns to ALICE, bringing two great musical friends who are also part of New Jungle Orchestra and who bring African roots to this particular quartet. Gambian kora player Dawda Jobarteh and Ghanaian percussionist Ayi Solomon have both been a part of the Danish music scene for many years, adding African influences to various jazz-, world-, and fusion projects. Together these four extraordinary musicians embark on a journey to explore a crossover world of jazz and African music in a more intimate set-up than what the larger New Jungle Orchestra allows. A must for all fans of ethno-jazz.

Please note: The show is seated with limited capacity.
