Frente Cumbiero er for længst internationalt anerkendt som den førende spydspids inden for nu-cumbia. Gruppen har i over et årti hentet den oprindelige genre fra Colombias caribiske kyster ind i nutiden og ført den ud i nye soniske eksperimenter der i den grad har udvidet grænserne for cumbiaen. Bandnavnet, der egentlig betyder ‘cumbia broder’, henviser til bandets frontmand Mario Galeano Toro, der i øvrigt står bag grupper som Ondatrópica og Los Pirañas, hvoraf sidstnævnte netop har spillet en forrygende koncert på ALICE i foråret.
Frente Cumbiero byder på tropisk festmusik båret frem af dubbede elektroniske sekvenser, energiske percussionforløb, luftige blæsertemaer og guacharaca loops, som er helt karakteristiske for cumbiaen. Det er en musik, som tager publikum med på hvad der føles som en uendelig rejse ud i cumbiaens mange afkroge. En musik der får hjertet til at hoppe, pulsen til at galoppere og kroppen i bevægelse!
Ud over at have spillet opsigtsvækkende koncerter på bl.a. New Yorks Museum of Modern Art (MoMA, 2011), Festival Estéreo Picnic (2011), Womad (2014) og Fuji Rock (2018), fik Frente Cumbiero i dén grad gang i publikums dansefødder da de spillede et uforglemmeligt show på Roskilde Festival i 2011. Bandet har derudover samarbejdet med dub-kongen Mad Professor og anerkendte Kronos Quartet og turneret verden tynd i forbindelse med pladeudgivelser på labels i Japan, Spanien og Nordamerika. With a large and successful career, Frente Cumbiero is recognized as a spearhead of Colombia’s new cumbia movement and has become one of the biggest representatives in the exploration of cumbia’s sonic identity in Latin America. Headed by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano Toro (also founding member of Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas), the band has collaborated with Kronos Quartet, recorded an album with the dub master himself, Mad Professor, and toured the world several times. Frente Cumbiero will take you on a journey through the many variations of the cumbia genre with instrumental, laptop-based party music that makes your heart jump and your pulse race.
