Huerco S

Huerco S aka Brian Leeds er en anerkendt NY-baseret DJ og producer, der som teenager spillede punk og metal i sin hjemby Kansas City, men som siden starten af 2010’erne har arbejdet med elektronisk musik og markeret sig selv som et vigtigt navn inden for eksperimenterende lo-fi house. Huerco S’ udgivelser på labels som Future Times, Opal Tapes, Software og Proibito har bevæget sig mellem drømmende ambient, dragende synth-collager og pulserende, underspillet bas, altid med ambitionen om at skabe musik “for the mind and for the floor”. Huerco S har tidligere spillet på Phono Festival og vi glæder os til at præsentere ham på ALICE når han spiller første danske koncert i flere år.

Tomoko Sauvage

I over et årti har den japanske Paris-baserede lydkunstner Tomoko Sauvage arbejdet på sin opfindelse “the natural synthesizer” - en hybrid mellem vand, keramik og elektronik. Med undervandsmikrofoner (de såkaldte hydrofoner) i skåle med vand, skaber Sauvage med sine hænder de meditative undervands-soundscapes ved hjælp af dråber, bobler, bølger og hydrofonisk feedback fra mikrofonerne. Tomoko Sauvage har opført sine værker på bl.a. Centre Pompidou, Unsound Festival, Nyege Nyege Festival og på Roskilde Festival i 2019. Hun skal uden tvivl opleves live, så gå ikke glip af hende når hun denne eftermiddag pakker ALICE ind i sit boblende ambiente lydunivers.

Britton Powell 

Britton Powell er en amerikansk komponist og kurator med base i New Yorks avantgarde-miljø. Gennem percussion, video og elektronik skaber han værker, der udforsker traditioner inden for minimalisme, psykoakustik og etnografisk musik. Hans seneste udspil “If Anything Is” er et multimedie-værk, der med video og ambiente lydflader kredser om temaer som kapitalisme og hyper-virkelighed og vækker forestillinger om golde urbane landskaber. Powell har samarbejdet med prominente navne som Matmos, Lucy Railton, Jon Gibson og Huerco S. Han har opført sine værker på Centre Pompidou (Paris), The Barbican Center (London), Unsound Festival (Krakow), The Kitchen (NYC) og The Guggenheim House (Japan) og han har udgivet på Warp Records, Mexican Summer Records, Unseen Worlds, og Catch Wave Ltd. Britton Powell spiller første danske solokoncert når han gæster ALICE til maj.

ALICE invites you for an afternoon of deep and dreamlike ambient, relentless minimalism and soothing sound undulations, presenting three remarkable artists within experimental electronic music: Huerco S, Tomoko Sauvage and Britton Powell.

Huerco S

Fueled by an ethos less bound by genre and more bound by feeling, Brian Leeds makes music for the mind and for the floor, finding lost artifacts and carving out sounds that speak to an altered state of home, or place. Music that plays tricks on your brain, music that makes you question or surrender your mind, music very much rooted in audio archaeology and personal exploration. Coming out from playing punk and metal bands as a teenager in Kansas, Brian picked up dance music as it was the opposite of what he’d been involved with for so long. 

Tomoko Sauvage

Over the past decade, Tomoko Sauvage has been working on “natural synthesizer” of her invention – waterbowls - combining water, ceramics and hydrophones (underwater microphones). Porcelain bowls, water drops, waves and bubbles as well as hydrophonic feedback and electronics are the main ingredients of her instrument that generates the sculptural and fluid timbre. Sauvage has published two solo albums including the recent "Musique Hydromantique" (Shelter Press). Sauvage's performance has been presented at international festivals and venues including : The Long Now - Maerz Musik (Berlin), Centre Pompidou Metz, Roskilde Festival, Unsound Festival (Krakow), Nyege Nyege Festival (Uganda) and Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art. 

Britton Powell

Britton Powell is an American composer and curator living in New York City. Through means of electronics, video, and percussion his work explores psycho-acoustic phenomena, minimalism, and traditions of ethnographic music. The composer's new work “If Anything Is” explores themes of hyper-reality and ambient capitalism by means of a staged mixed-media environment designed for sound and multichannel video. Powell’s music has appeared at venues around the world including Centre Pompidou (Paris), The Barbican Center (London), Unsound Festival (Krakow), The Kitchen (NYC), and The Guggenheim House (Japan). His work has been featured in The New Yorker, Washington Post, Bomb Magazine, and Wire Magazine among others. He has worked on recordings for Warp Records, Mexican Summer Records, Unseen Worlds, and Catch Wave Ltd. Powell works and collaborates with Jon Hassell, Matmos, Lucy Railton, Jon Gibson, Huerco S, and many others.
