Den karismatiske tenorsaxofonist og komponist Jan Harbeck har tidligere udgivet fire album i eget navn for Stunt Records. Han har vundet en ”Danish Music Award”, ligesom han har modtaget både Bent Jædig prisen og den prestigefyldte Ben Webster pris. Jan Harbeck, og hans gennem en årrække faste gruppe, har længe været en fast ingrediens på de fleste af landets jazzscener, ligesom bandet har spillet med stor succes rundt omkring i Europa. Bandets udgivelser har gennem det sidste årti været blandt de absolut bedst sælgende danske instrumentale jazzplader.
Harbecks stemningsfulde og udadvendte spil befinder sig i den store swing-tradition. Han fremstår aldeles original, ekstremt stilsikker og som en musiker, der graver dybt i sin jazz og som kender betydningen
af nærvær. Kun få er i stand til at blæse så megen sjæl i en jazz-ballade som ham. Thomas Michelsen skrev således i Politiken: ”Vi havde engang Ben Webster til at vække sjælen. I dag har vi Jan Harbeck!”
Amagerbro Jazz er beærede over at kunne præsentere denne koncert, – denne hyldest til ”Big Ben”, der boede i København i en årrække, og som ligger begravet her i København på Assistens Kirkegård og som stadig inspirerer. ”Det handler om at spille fra hjertet. Det er en lyd, ’a sound’, et sprog ” siger Jan Harbeck.
Ligeledes modtog pianisten i kvartetten Henrik Gunde den prestigefyldte Ben Webster Pris i 2018, og priskoncertens repertoire blev i høj grad inspirationen til at samle musikken til albummet ”The Sound The Rythm”, - numre som kan høres til koncerten.
