Koncertprogrammet “Taneyev og hans 2 lærlinge” omhandler pianist, komponist, forfatter, professor - og en af Ruslands mest prominente musikpersonligheder: Sergei Taneyev. Ud over at være en

eminent pianist, var han en helt særlig komponist. Han var en af

de få, der kunne mestre den matematiske opbygning af musik,

uden at miste følelser og gå på kompromis med naturlig skønhed.

Da hans nære ven Tchaikovsky trak sig tilbage fra konservatoriet i

Moskva, tog Taneyev over og gjorde sit indtryk på næste generation

af komponister - her i blandt Rachmaninoff og Medtner som hver

især gjorde brug af deres lærernes viden. Taneyev var yderst interesseret i at lære fra den viden hans tyske og franske samtidige kollegaer gjorde sig i deres arbejde, og lod sig inspirere af deres frie

idealer. Han var ofte på rejse til Paris og Berlin og mødtes bl.a.

med kunstnercirklen “De 20” og Cesar Franck, som netop har fejret

sit 200 års jubilæum.

Hans aktive arbejde imod den mere nationalistiske tendens der

ellers var på færre i Rusland på denne tid, gjorde ham enestående.

Meget af det 20. århundredes russiske musik er direkte takket være

Taneyevs tonesprog og musikalske arbejde.
