Santrofi skabte smittende highlife-fest på både Roskilde Festival og ALICE i 2019. Anført af Emmanuel Ofori (Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band) vender den ghanesiske all star-oktet tilbage til dansk jord til sommer og giver koncert på Onkel Dannys Plads som en del af årets Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Trods sin unge bemanding står highlife-kolletivet Santrofi på skuldrene af de største. Bandleder og bassist, Emmanuel Ofori, er kendt for sine samarbejder med highlife-genrens helt store legender, Ebo Taylor og Pat Thomas, som vi begge har haft glæde af at opleve på ALICE. Med Santrofi har han samlet et yngre hold af musikere, som tager arven op fra de gamle mestre, men som også tilføjer en frisk og sprudlende tilgang og et forrygende flot show. Her er nik tilbage til legendariske afrikanske highlife-bigbands fra 50erne, til afrobeat og til 70’ernes afrofunk, og samtidig er her mere moderne synth-klange og power-guitar.
Det vigtigste er dog, at hele det vidtfavnende univers formidles med så smittende energi og et forrygende sammenspil, hvor polyrytmiske grooves og uovertrufne guitar-soloer går op i en højere enhed. Efter at have oplevet gedigne highlife-fester på både Roskilde Festival og ALICE i 2019, har vi i den grad set frem til at få Santrofi tilbage på dansk jord. Glæd dig til at opleve dem, når de optræder med deres anmelderroste debutalbum “Alewa” (2020) på Onkel Dannys Plads under årets Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

Santrofi created a highlife blast at Roskilde Festival and ALICE in 2019. Led by Emmanuel Ofori (Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band) the Ghananian all star orchestra will return to Denmark this Summer, playing at Onkel Dannys Plads as a part of Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
PVery proverbial of the new vintage-inspired Highlife, Highlife Funk and Afrobeat, Santrofi is a collective of celebrated young musicians known within Ghana’s music circles. The band is led by bassist and producer Emmanuel Ofori, who rose from the immutable Ebo Taylor, and Pat Thomas and Kwashibu Area Band who we’ve been so lucky to host at ALICE. With Santrofi, Ofori has formed his own collective deeply informed by vintage Ghanaian highlife music in all its forms – from the smelting soulful highlife sound to the riveting fast-paced pulse of 70s dance-guitar highlife, or to the other-worldly sound of Highlife funk, 50s big band highlife or the polyrhythmic beats and melodies that took Afrobeat across the globe. But still with a young and fresh vibe to it, and an amazing liveshow.
Santrofi created an ecstatic highlife party at Roskilde Festival and ALICE in 2019. Now they are finally coming back on Danish ground, bringing their well received debut album “Alewa” (2020) and playing at Onkel Dannys Plads as a part of Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2022.
