Spidskandidaten for Centrumpartiet, Jørgen Brandt, gør sig uhjælpeligt til grin i et af de tv-gameshows, der er blevet politikeres hovedbeskæftigelse - hans parti ligger i ruiner og må se sig om efter en ny spidskandidat. Et ganske almindeligt - og ulykkeligt - færdselsuheld ophøjes til terrorhandling, så det kan blive springbræt for politiske manøvrer, der forrykker hele magtbalancen i landet. Et mord sættes i scene - og i det øjeblik, hvor 600 velnærede får slippes løs på motorvejen nord for Rødby, skynder Islamisk Stat sig at tage ansvaret.
Og mens alt dette foregår, står Frelsens Hær nede på torvet og spiller deres største hit: "Vorherre er en rutebil".
