Vintermørket kryber ind over os. Stormene tager til i styrke, og selv vores lille hjørne af kloden river de med sig. Tvivl og angst kommer krybende, men svarerne er få. Hvor ord og tanker kommer til kort, har musikken et sprog, der rækker udover de yderste grænser af vores fatteevne; til universets uendelige rum og sjælens uudgrundelige kamre.
Ved denne koncert skaber Ars Nova rum til de store spørgsmål. Vi bevæger os op igennem historien fra 1400-tallet til i dag og tilbage igen, gennem gudstro og tvivl, kærlighed og tab, harmoni og dissonans. Musikalske stilarter og verdenssyn kontrasterer, men spørgsmålene er de samme. I hjertet af koncerten er Bernd Frankes Rilke Madrigale, der bygger på fragmenter af den tyske digter Rainer Maria Rilkes Duineser Elegien. ,,Wer, wenn ich schriee, hörte mich denn aus der Engel Ordnungen?" – ”Hvem, hvis jeg skreg, hørte mig da blandt englenes ordner?", spørger Rilke, og vi genkender i os selv denne evige balancegang mellem afmagt og håb.
