Om koncerten
Kira Skov fortsætter åbningsaftenen med Costellos’ Juliet Letters, hvor hun akkompagneres af en kvartet bestående af 4 strygere fra Copenhagen Phil.
Elvis Costello, der oprindeligt slog igennem i Londons rockundergrund, udgav tilbage i 1993 flok sange i samarbejde med The Brodsky Quartet. Sangene er hverken popmusik eller klassiske lieder, snarere en form for kunstsange. Teksterne er skrevet over imaginære breve til Juliet Capulet fra Shakespeares skuespil Romeo & Juliet og er fyldt med både smerte, håb og humor.
”Det er ikke en rock opera – det er en helt ny ting!”- Sådan beskriver Elvis Costello sit værk The Juliet Letters. Ligesom i Romeo og Julie mødes modsætninger også i dette værk og det er netop kombinationen af en rock/pop-sanger og en strygekvartet, der gør, at The Juliet Letters bliver en usædvanlig smuk musikalsk oplevelse.
